Interprofessional Education

The Office of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education and Research at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic is dedicated to achieving higher impact through effective teamwork.

Research shows that team-based health care leads to better patient outcomes and satisfaction. But too often, our future health care professionals aren’t learning this way. Instead, they learn about their professions in silos, then are pushed together in the real world.

Our Health Education Campus—and the faculty who teach there—aim to change that.

The campus—comprising the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion and dental clinic building—is intended to foster collaboration and communication among future health care professionals from all fields, including medicine, nursing, dental medicine, physician assistant and social work.

Through our interprofessional education model, students come together for some of their traditional health courses, as well as new offerings focused specifically on elements of successful teams. They also have opportunities to see actual teams practice—and, in some cases, even participate in their efforts.

By learning, studying and gathering alongside one another, we aim to encourage collaboration, improve communication and foster professional relationships.
